research Supplementary Brief: South Korea's Exposure to Shipping Stranded Asset Risks
2025-10-26
The shipping industry plays a crucial role in connecting the global economy through imports and exports of large-scale cargo. International shipping accounts for about 3% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which would rank as the world's sixth-largest emitter if considered as a country.
Our goal is for South Korea's shipping industry to not only achieve the 2050 international shipping net-zero standards announced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries but ultimately to meet the Paris Agreement target of limiting global warming to within 1.5 degrees Celsius before 2050.
