Burning forests, boiling climate: Woody biomass harms global biodiversity
2024-08-06
Falsely regarded as green energy, large-scale forest biomass and crop-based biofuels are destroying the last-remaining forests of Southeast Asia and the Americas. This is leading to critical biodiversity loss and threatening the livelihoods of Indigenous peoples and local communities.
Government and private institutions must end financing and incentives for forest-risk commodities, starting with high-carbon bioenergy feedstocks, and promote policies and investments that support progress towards global climate and biodiversity goals.
