SFOC Climate Finance Head

Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC) is an independent policy research and advocacy group that aims to make emissions trajectories across Asia compatible with the Paris Agreement 1.5°C warming target. SFOC is led by legal, economic, financial, and environmental experts with experience in energy and climate policy.  

Job description  

Since its founding in 2016, SFOC has led strategic campaigns on coal power phase-out, renewables, and climate finance. More recently, we have expanded our work beyond the power sector, establishing oil and gas, legal, steel, methane, maritime transportation and land-use programs. SFOC’s effectiveness comes from its extensive digital and media communication, legal strategy, political network, and leadership among grassroots campaigns. The Climate Finance Program was one of SFOC’s first programs and seeks to make policies of development finance institutions, private finance institutions, including insurance companies, export credit agencies and pension funds compatible with the Paris Agreement.

SFOC is seeking an experienced leader who can lead its climate finance division. The ideal candidate has at least five years’ and ideally more than ten years’ experience in the field, is an excellent strategist, has experience leading a team of talented people, and passion to address climate change. The Climate Finance Head would be responsible for the following:

• Supervises SFOC’s Climate Finance Division, which consists of a transition finance program, private finance program and public finance program.
• Develop targeted campaigns and communication strategies, with network teams  
• Coordinate events and messaging on Korea’s climate finance policy
• Engage policymakers, and financial industry stakeholders to mainstream climate in the financial sector
• Engage with and from time to time consult with funders of SFOC’s climate finance work
• Plan and document the SFOC Climate Finance Division’s strategy and goals, which may need to be submitted to funding organizations
• Coordinate with SFOC’s other program and network teams
• Correspond with international and domestic climate advocacy organization partners and find opportunities for collaboration 

Qualifications 

• Experience leading a team in demanding situations 
• Critical and strategic thinking skills 
• Business and marketing skills 
• Fluency in English and Korean 
• Experience in climate change is preferred, but not a prerequisite 
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and the agility to work in ambiguous and unpredictable settings
