Researcher
Marihel was born and raised in a small village in South Sumatra, Indonesia. There, she directly witnessed environmental degradation and the growing vulnerability of her community as environmental conditions changed over time. These experiences motivated her decision to pursue work in the climate and sustainability field. She works with the Forests and Land Use team at SFOC. Marihel holds double major in Industrial and Information Systems Engineering and International Studies from Jeonbuk National University. During her studies, she actively participated in international sustainability related projects, one of these was low-carbon livestock initiative in Uzbekistan. She also joined a summer school in Netherlands focused on Law and Sustainability, that strengthened her understanding of environmental governance and policy.
