Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC) is an independent policy research and advocacy group that aims to make emissions trajectories across Asia compatible with the Paris Agreement 1.5°C warming target. SFOC is led by legal, economic, financial, and environmental experts with experience in energy and climate policy.  

 

Since its founding in 2016, SFOC has led strategic campaigns on coal power phase-out, renewables, and climate finance. More recently, we have expanded our work beyond the power sector, establishing oil and gas, legal, steel industry, with plans to cover maritime transportation and methane emissions.

 

Job description  

 

SFOC has used litigation as a tool to enhance climate ambition. In 2020, we filed the landmark youth climate litigation representing nineteen teenagers to a Korean Constitutional Court. Our legal team now consists of two mid-level and two junior-level attorneys. Lawyers in the legal team handle legal cases relating to power markets, fossil fuel project financing, and bioenergy, etc.

 

SFOC is seeking an experienced legal expert. The ideal candidate has at least five to ten years’ experience as a lawyer, has passion to address climate change. The position would be responsible for the following:

 

  • Establish legal strategy and conduct legal action
  • Collaborate with outside lawyers and legal researchers
  • In-house counsel for the organization
  • Correspond with international and domestic partners and from time to time consult with funders

 

Qualifications 

 

  • Bar admission in the Republic of Korea or in the U.S.
  • One to ten years’ experience as a lawyer
  • Willingness to work in an adhocracy system
  • Strategic and logical thinking
  • Effective communication skills
  • Fluency in English is preferred
