Renewable Energy & Power Market Policy

Renewable Energy & Power Market Policy

Renewables are the logical alternative to coal. Globally, renewables such as solar and wind power are rapidly expanding and replacing fossil fuels, the main source of greenhouse gases. However, solar and wind only comprise less than 4 percent of South Korea’s electricity generation.

SFOC seeks to reform land and maritime zoning requirements and develop forward-looking policies for the power market and grid system to expand renewables. To do so, SFOC introduces cases from other countries’ power markets and renewable policies to the Korean government, business, academia and civil society.

SFOC seeks to recommend policies that accelerate the expansion of renewables and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, and reform the Korean power market and industry so that renewables can be expanded through fair competition.
