Policy Research and Recommendations
We conduct in-depth analysis of climate, energy, industrial, and economic policies to propose viable policy alternatives and help bring about real policy change.
As part of the Ship Finance team, Hyogyeong Joo focuses on research to accelerate the decarbonization of the maritime sector. Drawing on her degree in Maritime Law and Policy and her background in the shipping and shipbuilding industries, she specifically targets South Korean government policies and public finance. Her work centers on phasing out financial support for traditional fossil fuels and transitional fuels such as LNG, and redirecting investments toward ZNZ (Zero and Near-Zero) fuel pathways. Supported by her practical seafaring experience as a licensed officer navigating commercial vessels, she brings grounded operational insights to climate policy. Having managed regulatory affairs for emerging maritime digitalization technologies, she has built practical experience collaborating with government and industry stakeholders in international regulatory and standard-setting discussions, including at the International Maritime Organization (IMO). By integrating global regulatory trends with frontline maritime insights, she translates operational realities into actionable, climate-aligned recommendations to drive sustainable transformation in the shipping sector.
