Climate Week NYC | Connecting Beyond Coal: Cross Regional Network Gathering

​Coal phaseout has become a key decarbonization strategy across the globe as countries seek to respond to the climate crisis.

​While the US, Europe and South Korea are planning to build gas power plants capable of assuming the capacity left behind by coal retirement, Japan continues to promote ammonia co-firing. These and other similar policies enable the expansion of false solutions that perpetuate the use of fossil fuels and hinder the transition to renewable energy.

​Against this backdrop, the global Beyond Coal campaign coalition faces both shared and region-specific realities and challenges. In this gathering, we aim to reflect on our past campaign successes, examine the challenges ahead and explore potential for collective action.
