About this event

The environmental impacts of LNG carriers go far beyond carbon emissions.

Many LNG carrier routes cross directly through marine protected areas home to critical biodiversity hotspots. From methane slip and underwater noise pollution to ballast water discharge introducing invasive species, LNG carriers leave behind a trail of damage while loading, delivering and transporting their cargo.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, SFOC, Equal Routes, Sky Truth and Conexiones Climáticas will co-host an online discussion unpacking how LNG carrier expansion is driving environmental degradation and threatening coastal livelihoods in some of the world’s most ecologically vulnerable regions. Presenters will introduce recent research, including findings from SFOC’s LNGC Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report, and share local insights from coastal communities directly affected by LNGC expansion.

Presentations will be followed by an open discussion and Q & A segment.
