Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC) is an independent policy research and advocacy group that aims to make emissions trajectories across Asia compatible with the Paris Agreement 1.5°C warming target. SFOC is led by legal, economic, financial, and environmental experts with experience in energy and climate policy.  

 

 

Job description  

Since its founding in 2016, SFOC has led strategic campaigns on coal power phase-out, renewables, and climate finance. More recently, we have expanded our work beyond the power sector, establishing oil and gas, legal, steel, methane, maritime transportation, and land-use programs. SFOC’s effectiveness comes from its extensive digital and media communication, legal strategy, diplomatic and political network, and leadership among grassroots campaigns.

 

The climate diplomacy associate will contribute to SFOC’s Diplomacy team’s work in supporting the work of monitoring domestic climate and energy policies while analyse the overseas climate policy trends. SFOC’s Climate Diplomacy Team works closely to promptly update overseas partner organizations and institutions the current climate and energy policies of South Korea. The team also monitors and analyses the overseas climate and energy policy trends to keep our internal SFOC team updated.

 

 

The Diplomacy Associate would be responsible for the following:

  • Engage with subnational, national, and international level networks to expand and coordinate thematic specific projects. This position will especially work closely with subnational governments and relevant entities.
  • Assist with organizing seminars, events, and convenings
  • Conduct research on various climate diplomacy dynamics and relationship of key stakeholders covering international leadership (such as G7/G20, UN General Assembly, COP) and certain key countries, especially in the Asia region.
  • Oversee and contribute to deliver news internally on topics relevant to Korea and international key outcomes on the fields not limited to energy, industry, climate finance, and forestry
  • Coordinate with other SFOC teams and multitask several tasks

 

Qualifications 

 

  • 2 years of minimum working experience, including internships.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the following fields but not required: government, international relations, climate, environment, energy, economics.
  • Analytical mind and careful thinking
  • Ability to manage confidentiality and sensitive information
  • English and Korean fluency. Korean fluency is a must for this position in writing and speaking.
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and the agility to work in ambiguous and unpredictable settings 
  • Team player with an inclusive and flexible mindset
  • Sense of responsibility and ownership to independently complete given task with promptness

Preferred Qualities

  • Strong passion and interest for climate and energy transition topics
  • Working experience (including internships) at a Korean national or subnational governmental organization.
  • Experience in organizing large scale seminars and events in English and Korean.
