Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC) is an independent policy research and advocacy group that aims to make emissions trajectories across Asia compatible with the Paris Agreement 1.5°C warming target. SFOC is led by legal, financial, and environmental experts with experience in energy and climate policy.  

 

Job description  

 

Since its founding in 2016, SFOC has led strategic campaigns on coal power phase-out, renewables expansion, and climate finance. SFOC’s effectiveness comes from its extensive digital and media communication, legal strategy, political network, and leadership among grassroots campaigns.

 

The Coal Finance program is a part of our Climate Finance team and covers activities around facilitating financial institutions’ accelerated coal phase-out using innovative financial tools.

 

SFOC is seeking a Program Associate to join the Coal Finance program. The ideal candidate has experience in the field, is an excellent strategist, has good writing skills, has experience collaborating with a talented team, and is passionate about addressing climate change. The Coal Finance Associate would be responsible for the following:

 

  • Support SFOC’s Coal Finance program, which seeks to use finance as a tool to expedite financial institutions’ coal phase-out in Korea and Asia.
  • Completing and disseminating policy briefs on an analysis of financial institutions’ coal phase-out policies.
  • Completing and disseminating policy briefs on an analysis of regulatory frameworks related to fossil fuel phase-out.
  • Coordinate events and messaging on Korea’s coal phase-out.
  • Engage with Korean policymakers, various types of prayers in financial industry such as (re)insurers, asset managers, securities, banks to accelerate the industry’s decarbonization.
  • Participate in planning and documenting the climate finance team’s strategy and goals for the next five years and refine campaign strategies and tactics
  • Correspond and collaborate with international and domestic climate advocacy organization partners
  • Monitor, analyze, and evaluate policies, initiatives, and new developments around coal power issues and coal phase-out policies of National Pension Service and other major financial institutions.
  • Draft advocacy materials and policy briefs, and provide data/materials for fossil fuel phase-out campaigns
  • Develop creative campaign strategies and tactics.

 

Qualifications 

  • Experience implementing tasks in demanding situations 
  • Critical and strategic thinking skills 
  • Business and marketing skills 
  • Fluency in Korean and/or English
  • Experience in climate change is preferred, but not a prerequisite 
  • Experience In financial industry is preferred, but not a prerequisite
  • Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and the agility to work in ambiguous and unpredictable settings
