Methane (Industry) Team Research Associate

Introduction:

Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC) is seeking a Research Associate within the Methane (Industry) Team. Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC) is an independent policy research and advocacy group that aims to make emissions trajectories across Asia compatible with the Paris Agreement 1.5°C warming target. SFOC is led by legal, economic, financial, and environmental experts with experience in energy and climate policy. Since its founding in 2016, SFOC has led strategic campaigns on coal power phase-out, renewables, and climate finance. More recently, we have expanded our work beyond the power sector, establishing oil and gas, legal, steel, land-use and methane programs, with plans to cover maritime transportation. SFOC’s effectiveness comes from its extensive digital and media communication, legal strategy, political network, and leadership among grassroots campaigns.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on methane emission reduction measures and prepare proposals on relevant policies for domestic/international governments and industrial stakeholders
  • Produce content to raise public awareness on methane as a key issue of the climate crisis
  • Plan and implement projects to monitor and reduce methane emissions

Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading and implementing projects
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively to the public about complex and technical issues
  • Sense of ownership of work and ability to independently perform given tasks within given deadlines
  • Fluent/Native Korean speaker

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Climate, energy, environment-related major or work/research experience (1~5 years)
  • Research or campaign work experience in civil society, research institutes or think tanks
  • Expertise in agriculture and livestock, waste, energy, or greenhouse gases (methane)
  • Ability to conduct research, write reports and conduct meetings in English and Korean
