Introduction

Solutions for Our Climate (SFOC) is an independent policy research and advocacy group that aims to make emissions trajectories across Asia compatible with the Paris Agreement 1.5°C warming target. SFOC is led by legal, economic, financial, and environmental experts with experience in energy and climate policy.

Since its founding in 2016, SFOC has led strategic campaigns on coal power phase-out, renewables, and climate finance. More recently, we have expanded our work beyond the power sector, establishing oil and gas, legal, steel, land-use, methane, and maritime transportation programs. SFOC’s effectiveness comes from its extensive digital and media communication, legal strategy, political and diplomatic network, and leadership among grassroots campaigns.

Job Description

Through collaboration with academia, civil society, and corporates, the SFOC industry team (Steel) conducts research and launches campaigns to induce structural changes toward decarbonising the industrial sectors of steel, shipping, and tackle methane emissions in the energy sector. 

SFOC is seeking a Researcher within the Steel Team whose responsibilities are as follows:

Responsibilities

• Conduct research on emission reduction measures regarding the steel sector
• Prepare proposals on relevant policies for government and industrial stakeholders.
• Produce content to raise public awareness on emissions of various industries as a key issue of the climate crisis.
• Communicate and build solidarity with domestic and int’l climate organisations.
• Support relevant campaigns and hosting of events, including seminars.

Requirements 

• Fluency/strong command of Korean (both speaking and writing)
• Intermediate or higher levels of English skills
• More than 12 months of work or research experience
• Interest in industrial emissions, decarbonization, climate, environment, and energy issues.

Preferred qualifications 

• Climate, energy, environment-related major or work/research experience
• Experience in writing policy proposals and reports/research articles
• Research, advocacy or campaign experience in civil society, research institutes and think tanks
• Experience in or knowledge of the Korean Emissions Trading System (ETS)
• Ability to conduct research, write reports and conduct meetings in Englishand Korean
